10 Items You Need Right Away For Baby

Preparing for the arrival of a new baby involves a bit of planning and organization, but you can easily get caught up in thinking you need to have EVERYTHING ready and available for the day you bring baby home! Do yourself a favour and give yourself some grace – here are the 10 things you really should have right away, but the rest of it can wait!

  1. A good car seat! You’re going to want to be able to transport the baby safely!
  2. A stroller that is suitable for your lifestyle! Need something compact? Do you want to be able to jog with the baby? Do your research and find something that works!
  3. Diapers & Wipes – this one goes without saying…..but don’t buy too many newborn sized! Your new little one will outgrow them faster than you imagine!
  4. A good bouncer or swing can be a lifesaver! You’re going to need both hands free from time to time…knowing baby is content while you get some tasks completed will make life easier.
  5. Get yourself a white noise machine…it will really help with getting baby to calm down, regardless of if you are choosing to co-sleep or have baby in their own room.
  6. Do yourself a favour and have a baby thermometer on hand. The first time your little one is sick will be stressful, you can’t avoid it. Having a thermometer on hand will help you to know how baby is doing and likely bring you peace of mind as well.
  7. Clothing wise, I know you’ve probably received a bunch of very cute outfits for baby! The reality is, your little one will very likely live in sleepers and onesies for the first months of their life. Onesies and sleepers are most comfortable for baby, and are also the easiest for Mom and Dad to get them in and out of through all of those diaper changes!
  8. If you plan to breastfeed, get yourself a good breast pump! It will help you to maintain or increase your milk supply, and also allow you the flexibility of having others bottle feed if that is something you are hoping for.
  9. Bottles and nipples should be on your list whether you plan to breastfeed or formula feed! Investing in a good set with nipples that control flow will be a lifesaver.
  10. Again, whether you plan to breastfeed or formula feed, a nursing pillow is an essential! It will help you find a comfy position for both of you, when you are feeding or just snuggling with your new bundle.

As you adjust to your new routine, you’ll know what other items will be essentials for you and your new little family – but this list should have you covered for the first few blissful weeks! Good luck, Mama!
